Now open cast extraction has been completed Glebe Mines are well into restoring the open pit. The site produced more than 700,000 ton at 30% CaF2 since 1999, Arthurton West had been operated under modern planning consent which was gained in 2001, following the consolidation of numerous ministerial consents granted in 1950's. Glebe Mines took direct operational control of the site in 2001 and are now at maximum depth of 60m below ground level. Glebe Mines will ensure the site is fully restored over the next 2 years. Ore production from the immediate locality will continue from an extension of the deposit in a westerly direction (Arthurton West Extension)

Arthurton West Extension

There are 300,000 tonnes of vein minerals that are currently being extracted from the extension. Glebe Mines already had consent to work the vein by methods of underground mining but gained open cast permission in 2006. The extension will run for 2 years with a further year given for restoration.

When the two pits are at maximum extent Bow Rake will be 90m below ground level and High Rake will be 60m below ground level. These depths should be reached by 2011. This is when the restoration period starts. Approximately 2.7 million tonnes of limestone, and tailings pumped from Cavendish Mill will be needed to restore Bow Rake/High Rake to original ground level.

Winster

Glebe Mines was granted planning permission for the site in early 2004 and work began in September 2004. There are 375,000 tonnes of vein minerals on site. The site will be completed in 2008 with a further year given for restoration. The land won't be restored to original ground level; it will be restored to a dry valley feature amenable for agricultural end use.
