Tearsall Application

“We are very pleased with the decision of the Full Authority to approve the proposal to extend Tearsall open pit.  In the current economic crisis, it is good news for employees both at Glebe Mines and our operation in Runcorn.

The proposal is short term and temporary; and the operation restricted to a relatively small area surrounding the site.  Glebe recognises the unique qualities of the Peak Park and we have a long-standing commitment to protecting the environment and restoring the land after extraction.

We will continue to work closely with the Peak Park, its consultees and stakeholders, to ensure that we keep them informed of progress both during the operation and restoration phases.

We are committed to securing a continued supply of UK fluorspar, whilst minimising the environmental impact of our operation. We take our environmental responsibilities very seriously and are confident our extensive remediation plans will deliver this commitment for Tearsall.”

Completion of Stoke Brook clean up

Glebe Mines are pleased to report that the clean up of Stoke Brook has now been successfully accomplished.

Local consultant ecologists, Penny Anderson Associates, have now completed the final part of the remediation work in Stoke Brook and the River Derwent.

The deposited material was cleared from the watercourse using specialist equipment, which ensured that the meadow and banks were protected throughout the process.  All recovered material was returned to Cavendish Mill.

A Public Meeting was organised on the 12th November by Penny Anderson Associates and the Environment Agency.  During the meeting it was agreed that further assessments were required down stream in the River Derwent.

We can confirm that these have now been carried out and it is not anticipated that any further work will be necessary.
